Partnering

Partnering

Indigenous people must engage in partnerships that respect tribal sovereignty, value Indigenous knowledge, and pay deference to Indigenous ways of knowing. Blocks range from relationships with universities and colleges, NGOs, private landowners, and local, state, and federal agencies. ISN understands that effective partnerships can be cultivated to offer effectiveness and efficiencies at a landscape scale. ISN offers its organization resources that will lead to authentic and equitable partnerships and improve access to land for traditional stewardship, sustenance, and subsistence. ISN is committed to developing and enhancing relationships while building bridges of understanding.

Why is This Important?

Respect for Tribal Sovereignty:

Engaging in partnerships that respect tribal sovereignty is crucial for honoring the legal and cultural autonomy of Indigenous tribes, ensuring their rights and decision-making powers are upheld.

Valuing Indigenous Knowledge:

Recognizing and valuing Indigenous knowledge in partnerships acknowledges the decadent and unique contributions of Indigenous ways of knowing to various fields, including environmental stewardship, medicine, and cultural practices.

Broadening Collaboration Networks:

Forming partnerships with diverse entities like universities, NGOs, private landowners, and government agencies expands the network and resources available to Indigenous communities, enhancing their capacity to achieve their goals.

Efficiency and Effectiveness at Scale:

ISN's understanding that effective partnerships can improve efficiency and effectiveness at a landscape scale is essential for tackling large-scale environmental and cultural challenges that transcend individual community capabilities.

Enhancing Access to Land:

Offering resources to cultivate authentic and equitable partnerships helps improve access to land for traditional stewardship, sustenance, and subsistence, which is vital for Indigenous communities' physical and cultural survival.

Building Bridges of Understanding:

ISN's commitment to developing and enhancing relationships and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities is essential for creating a more inclusive, equitable, and culturally aware society.
